A Mother’s Day Tea to Remember at the Westin St. Francis

Every May, as Mother’s Day rolls around, I make a promise to myself: to celebrate motherhood with my family, but also for myself. And this year, just like last, I knew exactly how I wanted to spend it—sipping tea, savoring sweets, and soaking in the city skyline at the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at the iconic Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.

If you’ve never treated yourself to this magical experience, let me paint the picture for you: a sunlit room on the 32nd floor of the hotel, with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay and the twinkling city below. The entire atmosphere feels like stepping into a modern fairytale—elegant, peaceful, and indulgent in the best way.

You’re greeted with a warm smile and a table filled with the most charming treats: delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream, and beautifully crafted pastries that taste just as amazing as they look. The tea menu? A dream. From floral blends to classic Earl Grey, there’s something for every tea-loving heart. And if you’re like me and bring your boys along (yes, I bring my whole family—even the rowdy ones!), they’ll love nibbling on sweet treats and feeling very grown-up with their own cups of tea (they also have the option for hot chocolate, which my boys were very VERY excited for).

One of my favorite parts? The bouquet-making station by Diosa Blooms! Each mom gets to create her own personalized floral arrangement to take home. It’s such a thoughtful touch—who doesn’t want to leave with a beautiful bouquet they made themselves? The team at Diosa Blooms is so helpful with helping you choose the perfect stems and arranging your hand picked flowers into the most elegant bouquet. We got tons of compliments walking around Union Square with our bouquets, with constant inquiries of where we purchased them!

Now, I’ll admit: convincing my family of boys to dress up for a tea party might sound like a stretch. But here’s the thing—I don’t feel guilty. This is my day. And honestly? They end up loving the experience. It’s become our little tradition, and now they look forward to it (especially the treats!).
Whenever we stay in the city, the Westin St. Francis is our home away from home. There’s just something about the historic charm, the grand lobby, and the unbeatable Union Square location that makes everything feel special. They always have fun events going on in the square, every year we drop by and see their fashion show and live music after the Mother’s Day Tea and have the most amazing time. I love that the Westin is family-friendly without sacrificing luxury. Whether we’re window shopping at the designer boutiques, grabbing a bite at one of the many surrounding restaurants, or hopping on a cable car for a ride through the city, the Westin is the perfect starting point for an unforgettable family weekend.
