A Sweet Girls’ Getaway to Midway, Utah

If you're looking for the perfect destination getaway for a girls trip—whether it's with your best friend, your daughter, or both—let me introduce you to **Midway, Utah**. Tucked in the Heber Valley, this little Swiss-inspired town feels like a hidden gem straight out of Europe, but with all the cozy, small-town charm you could ever want. Between the mountain views, charming shops, and one-of-a-kind activities, it's the kind of place where memories are made.

This summer, my daughter and I teamed up with my friend and her daughter for a getaway to Midway, and it turned out to be the sweetest trip. From staying at the Zermatt Utah Resort & Spa to visiting Swiss Days, exploring Ballerina Farm's new storefront, and swimming in the Homestead Crater, every moment was something special.

We stayed at Zermatt, which was the perfect home base. The resort feels European-inspired with its chalet-style design, and it's packed with amenities for both kids and adults. The girls loved the carousel and miniature golf, while we all spent plenty of time in the indoor/outdoor pool and hot tubs. There are also tennis courts, an on-site spa (a total dream for moms who want to sneak in some relaxation), and multiple dining options.

One of the highlights of our trip was experiencing Swiss Days. This annual festival is one of the biggest events in Midway, celebrating the town's heritage with local vendors, food, crafts, and entertainment. It was such a fun way to spend the day with the girls. Thankfully, Zermatt made it easy by offering a shuttle service to and from the festival, which saved us from dealing with the insane parking situation.

✨ **Swiss Days Tips:**

* Go first thing in the morning or during the last hour or two of the festival if you want to avoid the biggest crowds.

* On the last day, many vendors discount their items—we scored pies for just **\$3 each**!

* Even if you don't make it for Swiss Days, Midway has plenty of charm year-round, and the downtown shops are adorable for browsing.

Another stop I had been looking forward to was Ballerina Farm. Like so many others, I've been fascinated by the life of Hannah Neeleman and her family, so visiting their newly opened storefront in Midway was at the very top of my list. And it did not disappoint.

The shop is beautifully curated with a thoughtful mix of items—unique cookware, cookbooks, humorous candles, flavored salts, fresh produce, and of course, baked goods (the cinnamon rolls are a must!). It's a small but intentional space, and so many of the products would make perfect gifts or keepsakes. Out front, there's a charming patio with picnic tables where you can enjoy your bakery treats. When we visited, blankets were hanging in the breeze, which only added to the cozy, farm-like atmosphere. Visiting the shop felt like stepping into a piece of the lifestyle so many of us admire from afar, and it made our Midway trip feel even more special.

We also made time for the Homestead Crater, one of the most unique attractions in the area. Hidden inside a rock dome, this natural geothermal hot spring stays a perfect 95 degrees year-round. Floating in the warm water while looking up at the opening in the dome was such a cool and memorable experience for both moms and daughters.

Other Things to Do in Midway

We packed a lot into our weekend, but there's still so much more to explore in Midway. A few activities we didn't have time for (but are already on our list for next time!):

  • Ice Castles** (Winter Only): Midway is famous for its magical ice castle experience—towering walls of ice, tunnels, and slides all lit up at night.

  • Wasatch Mountain State Park**: Perfect for hiking, biking, or a scenic drive. In the winter, it's also a popular spot for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

  • Soldier Hollow: Offers tubing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer.

  • Horseback Riding: Several local outfitters offer guided rides through the mountains, which would be such a fun way to take in the views.

  • Midway Hot Springs: Besides the Homestead Crater, there are other natural hot springs in the area for a relaxing soak.

  • Golf at Soldier Hollow or Wasatch Mountain Golf Course: Scenic courses with amazing mountain backdrops.

  • Fly Fishing & Water Sports: The Provo River is nearby and known for excellent fly fishing. Jordanelle Reservoir is also close for boating, paddle boarding, or kayaking.

  • We kept things simple with the girls, but Midway and nearby Heber Valley have some great restaurants worth trying when you want a nice night out. We ate a Lulu’s and highly recommend it.

Our trip to Midway was the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and charm. Between the cozy Swiss-inspired town, the fun at Zermatt Resort, the excitement of Swiss Days, the visit to Ballerina Farm's new storefront (and bakery!), and the unforgettable swim in the Crater, it was a weekend full of memories we'll treasure forever. If you're looking for a family-friendly spot that's both unique and relaxing, Midway should definitely be on your list.
